This year is going to be even better than last ! David is coming back to the Overlander and we’ve added in a hike with a picnic plus a trip to the Hot Springs. We’ve also added an afternoon Sunday session. Space is limited to 30 spots. Read below for the full weekend description.
Authorized Level II Ashtanga Teacher David Robson returns to the Overlander Mountain Lodge May 10 to 12/ 2013. Join us for a rejuvenating an relaxing weekend while we dive into some to the philosophy and practice of Ashtanga Yoga. These classes are suitable for people of all levels and you dont require any previous knowledge of Ashtanga yoga.
David Robson is the director of the Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Toronto. With 100+ students each morning, he leads one of the world’s largest Mysore programs. After completing a degree in Comparative Religion, David made his first trip to Mysore, India in 2002, where he initiated studies with his teacher Sharath Jois. Since then he has returned annually to deepen and enrich his practice and teaching. David teaches workshops and retreats around the world, and he recently released a popular series of DVDs on vinyasa, Learn To Float. He is Level-2 Authorized by the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute.

The Philosophy of Vinyasa – 5:30 – 7
Vinyasa means moving/breathing system. Specifically, it refers to the counted movements that map our practice. Using the Sun Salutations, this workshop will explain the role and practice of vinyasa as it is traditionally taught in Ashtanga Yoga.

David will lead you through Ashtanga’s Primary Series with the traditional Sanskrit count.

Ashtanga & Meditation - 10:30 – 12:00
In The Yoga Sutras, Patanjali wrote that the mind can be stilled by practice and dispassion (1.12). How does our practice on the mat actually work to still our mind? Where does dispassion fit in? This workshop will take a detailed and practical look at the technique and philosophy that can make our daily Ashtanga practice a powerful meditation. This workshop is open to practitioners of all levels.

Jump Back & Jump Through – 1:30 to 3:30
This workshop is all about the transitional jumping vinyasas known as jump-backs and jump-throughs. These dynamic movements run like a th
read through the sitting poses of Ashtanga Yoga, joining them together. Jump-backs and jump-throughs are fluid, graceful vinyasa that build and maintain a deep, internal heat, which “boils the blood,” promoting detoxification and purification. They can also be really, really challenging. This workhsop will break down the jumping vinyasas into 5 steps to help you develop the strength, flexibility, and understanding that will deepen your experience of these vinyasas and the Ashtanga practice as a whole.
Miette Hot Springs – 4:00 till 6:00
This year we will make a trip up to the Miette Hot Springs! What could be better than soaking the warm soothing mineral waters of the Hot Springs after a day of yoga? The drive up to the springs is right into the heart of the rockies and great chance to see wildlife. Relax your body and breathe in fresh mountain air the look forward to dinner at the lodge.

Nature Hike with Picnic- 10:30 to 12:30
The Overlander is located at the edge of Jasper National Park and surrounded by Rocky Mountains. Weather permitting we will take a hike into the forest and down to a unique ecosystem of sand dunes in the foothills of the Rockies.
Knees, Hips, and Forward Bends 12:30 to 3:30
Ashtanga’s Primary Series is full of forward folds and knee bends. Correct technique and alignment is integral in order to avoid injuring the hamstrings, lower back, or knees. This workshop will explore the different aspects of the Primary Series forward bends with the goal of keeping the body safe.

Event is 100% non-refundable within 30 days of the scheduled event. A $25.00 cancellation fee for events or workshops applies when cancellation is made more than 30 days before the workshop or event.
